The Love Pug by Jennifer Sattler

I have loved pugs ever since I met my dear Aunt Cec’s Mack the Pug, so I was excited to read Jennifer Sattler‘s (2015) The Love Pug (Bloomsbury Children’s Books) for today’s review.

Part of the Chick ‘n’ Pug collection, The Love Pug is a story of a rather sleepy Pug who does not do much to welcome Daisy, the new pug in town. So Chick is faced with trying to please Daisy. The tables turn, however, when a bee moves in on the scene – much to Pug’s dismay.  So it’s Daisy’s task to save the day in hopes of earning Pug’s affection.

The word that comes to mind for this book is cute.  The cover is simply adorable and will surely catch young children’s eyes. The illustrations are loud and really pop!

But The Love Pug comes up a bit short. When I finished the book, I found myself wanting a more developed plot.  I even read the book to my husband (such a great guy!) to make sure I was not missing something.  This is not to say that I do not think kids will enjoy The Love Pug.  I think it can still be a fun read-aloud book.  There are just so many high-quality children’s books being published right now that it is hard to give this one the highest of ratings.

Would love to know what you think about The Love Pug in the comments below!  Have a great weekend!
