A perfect read aloud for Groundhog Day, Groundhog’s Day Off (Bloomsbury) by Robb Pearlman’s (2015) is really great!
Groundhog has finally had enough. All people seem to care about is whether they’ll be seeing more winter or an early spring. But they do not care about him. So he takes off to the spa … until people realize that no other animal can possibly do what he does. When people finally appreciate Groundhog for who he really is, he returns to his spectacular role.
I really liked this book. The theme of accepting the whole person is so very important in our world. Behind Pearlman’s humor is a really serious story about someone who wants to be valued for who he thinks he is. This is also a story about standing up for oneself and refusing to let people treat you with anything less than you deserve!
