Maximillian Villainous by Margaret Chiu Greanias and Illustrated by Lesley Breen Withrow

I love when review copies arrive on my door! I was excited to read Margeret Chiu Greanias‘s debut children’s picture book Maximillian Villainous (out August 28 from Running Press). I absolutely LOVE reviewing debut authors!! Illustrated by Lesley Breen Withrow, this book is about standing up for what you think is right.

Kids will enjoy the absolutely ridiculousness that appears in the opening pages of Maximillian Villainous. Maximillian just does not fit in with his family of villains. Whereas Maximillian’s parents want him to do mischievous acts, he wants to do what is right. But he and his new pet bunny only have a short timeline to fulfill his mother’s demands.

Maximillian proves that you can only be who you truly are – and that doing the right thing is always best. In a world in which many people are celebrated for doing what is not right, Maximillian offers readers – through his own clever antics – a much needed “monster of ethics and goodwill!”

Readers will enjoy Withrow’s illustrations. I really enjoyed the visible colored pencil lines, and there is a whimsical quality to her work that complements the book’s storyline. I especially enjoyed the unique qualities Withrow provides each monster. Kids will enjoy the monster portrait gallery!

A fun read-aloud text, adults and children will enjoy Maximillian Villainous, which earns three stars.img-thingimg-thingimg-thing
