I’m really excited to share Breath With Me: Using Breath to Feel Strong, Calm, and Happy (out from Sounds True in 2018) with you today. This children’s picture book, out from the author-illustrator duo of Mariam Gates and Sarah Jane Hinder, is about the art of calming down.
So many of us are seeking ways to help ourselves and the little people in our lives learn ways to effectively manage stress at various points in our lives, so this book is really important.
Colorful pages and an upbeat narrative voice take readers through a series of breathing exercises that can be done in a myriad situations (e.g., when we wake up, feel nervous, aren’t treated correctly, or when we just can’t sleep). So very practical and a perfect read aloud text for story time at home or school (and in counseling sessions or clinical settings), Breathe With Me offers multiple opportunities for reader engagement. I can just see younger children enjoying practicing the exercises!
