We’ve just had our little guy’s second birthday party, and even though picking out locations was difficult, we did not even consider the moon! As a little girl, I used to love creating the solar system in my bedroom, and I had (and still have) a nice red telescope.
Much more detailed than I expected, If You Had Your Birthday Party on the Moon tells readers what it would be like to have your birthday party on the moon! The narrative voice is humorous and fun, making for a fun read aloud for readers. I think older elementary students will really enjoy this book because it has lots of details about space that would be somewhat difficult for really young readers to understand.
The blend of fiction and nonfiction is appropriate, but some readers (kids and adults) alike may get bogged down by the amount of text – both in the fiction and nonfiction parts. I do like how the book allows readers to read the book’s plot parts with or without the dense facts. Books that can be read several ways are always great for the home or classroom library!
A good book for the little stargazer in your life, If You Had Your Birthday Party on the Moon earns four stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
