“This wonder was seen by a lucky few. / I see a miracle in you.”
“It’s almost Christmas!” is something I started saying in July a few years ago! My husband, who did not take to this idea too quickly, has started saying it. It’s just a way to lengthen the holiday season and always brings a smile to our faces!
So, today, I want to start a new little tradition here on Katie Reviews Books. I want to review books for the holidays on Fridays in a little series I’m calling Holiday Friday!
Our first selection for Holiday Friday is Julie Berry‘s Long Ago, on a Silent Night (Orchard Books, September, 2019). Illustrated beautifully by Annie Won, this picture book tells the story of the arrival of Jesus while sharing one family’s miracle baby.
Told in rhyming couplets, Long Ago, on a Silent Night starts with a family bringing home a beautiful baby. The narrating parents welcome a new baby home, sharing their adoration of their new arrival and teaching about the birth of Jesus.
I found myself just loving many of the lines; they seemed to capture perfectly the joy of bringing home a little one.
I love the softness of Won’s illustrations. She captures beautifully the wonder of having a new baby while sharing the magical story of baby Jesus.
A perfect holiday read and gift for new parents, Long Ago, on a Silent Night earns five trees.
