This book does not offer an extraordinarily original storyline. There are other stories out there about making the least likely tree the most beautiful. Charlie Brown comes to mind. But there is just something about this book that is utterly spectacular.
Zommer tells the story of undersized tree who is not selected to be a Christmas tree. When the tree calls out, it is unsure who will hear. But he is so grateful that animal friends come and make his clearing a most cheerful place.
The illustrations are just stunning. They help create a cozy feel and capture the magic of the season with snowflakes and shooting stars.
When I read this book aloud to my little guy a few days ago, my husband, a school psychologist, noticed some connections to helping those with exceptionalities. This is definitely a book teachers and parents can use to help students understand how to support those who have differences.
This book is about Christmas, yes, but it is about so much more. The story of friendship and warmth that it conveys will warm hearts throughout the year.
A holiday read that should definitely be on your bookshelf, The Tree That’s Meant to Be earns five trees. 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
